Understanding Dog Ownership Laws in Tahlequah
Do you know the rules and laws regarding dog ownership in Tahlequah? Hi, my name is Aaron Grubb, and I’m the Tahlequah attorney at Wirth Law Office. In this video, we’re going to talk about dog ownership laws in Tahlequah.
First off, the city of Tahlequah has an ordinance stating that no one can own a vicious dog within city limits. A vicious dog is defined as one that has attacked or bitten someone in the past, has destroyed or injured property, or has growled with the intention to bite.
Will Your Dog Be Considered Vicious?
This ordinance does not specify particular breeds, allowing for the ownership of various breeds despite previous bans on specific ones, such as pit bulls. According to former mayor Ken Purdy, such breed bans are no longer in effect, as Oklahoma law prohibits the prohibition against individual breeds.
Additionally, the city of Tahlequah requires that all animals kept within city limits, as well as those outside city limits, be vaccinated for rabies and receive annual rabies shots. Maintaining compliance with these regulations is essential for all pet owners in the area.
